How long is the elementary lunch?

Currently, lunch and recess are 45 minutes combined - lunch is 30 minutes per state law. Recess time will vary by school. State law requires 20 minutes of recess, but it does not need to be continuous time. 

 

Can elementary certified staff be assigned both a morning and an afternoon duty?

Elementary certified staff can be assigned a duty for both the morning and the afternoon, so long as those duties do not exceed the 15 minutes of required work time before and after the contractual work day. Teachers who agree to perform duties beyond that time can do so voluntarily. They may also ask to be paid for the time in lieu of volunteering. If they are refused pay they are not obligated to do the work. 

 

If a PPT or other meeting is scheduled during my lunch or planning time, what do I do?

 If a PPT or other meeting is scheduled during your lunch or planning time you can either ask that the meeting be scheduled for another time or request that you receive coverage to make up for the time. Ideally the coverage should be for the same day, but it can be provided on another day if that’s what’s mutually agreed upon by the teacher and the administrator.

If I already have a 60 minute literacy or math meeting each week, can my principal also schedule an additional administrative meeting (grade-level, SRBI, etc.)?

Your principal may only schedule 60 minutes of administrative directed planning time per week. Other meetings should be scheduled outside of your planning and lunch time, and you should be provided with coverage for those meetings.

If an elementary teacher covers lunch duty, do they get compensated?

What are the temperature requirements for outdoor versus indoor recess?

If the temperature with wind chill is below 40, recess is inside. If it's 95 or above, inside recess is recommended.

Who is responsible for putting in EL specific grades? 

EL teacher should enter EL-specific grades. They can contact Stephanie Homa for access to the needed report cards.

If there are school cancellations on Fridays, are those made up as teacher days at the end of the year for Alice Peck since students do not come on Fridays?
